Although it doesn’t have a specific guaranteed spawn point, there are ways to improve your chances. Nighttime is the most favorable time to fish for the Mosasaurus, with foggy weather further increasing the odds. While any saltwater area on the Ancient Isle can yield results, I found the waterfall on the island’s western side (the one that contains the entrance to the Ancient Archives) to be the most productive spot. Fishing here also presents opportunities to encounter other mythical creatures, such as the Colossal Squid and Meg’s Fangs - though repeated catches of Meg’s Fangs can test your patience. They certainly did for me. It’s worth noting that luck can sometimes trump optimal conditions. While the recommended bait for the Mosasaurus is the rare Truffle Worm, I managed to catch one using the more common Worm bait during a clear night.

Once you’ve hooked a Mosasaurus, catching it is no small feat. Landing one grants 3,000 XP, and its value averages 6,160.60C$, calculated based on its weight (valued at 0.5357C$ per kg). With an average weight of 9,000 kg, it’s a lucrative catch. If you’re having trouble hooking the Mosasaurus, consider using a Smokescreen Totem (found at the back of Mushgrove Swamp, near the exit of the Aligator Marsh) to push every variable in your favor. The weather and celestial cycle are two things you can control if you have the right Totems. If you don’t want to wait for nighttime, grab the Sundial Totem (from the cave on Sunstone Island), too.

Selecting a rod capable of handling the Mosasaurus’s weight is critical. Below is a comparison of the top rods suited for this task: Avoid using Mythical Rods unless they’re enchanted with Unbreakable, as their maximum weight limit of 2,000 kg makes them unsuitable for the Mosasaurus.
