How to unlock and increase all Follower Bonds in Metaphor: ReFantazio

Throughout the game, there are 14 Followers that the Protagonist can Bond with. Some Bonds form automatically as part of the story, while others require specific side quests or dialogue checks with the five Royal Virtues: Courage, Wisdom, Tolerance, Eloquence, and Imagination. Talking to your Followers or completing their quests can help you rank up their Bonds. The more you rank up your Follower Bonds, the more new Archetypes you have access to. Below, you’ll find out how to unlock every Follower in Metaphor: ReFantazio, how to rank up their Bond, and what rewards you get for doing so.

The first Bond you’ll unlock comes after defeating Homo Gorleo on 06/05. Once the battle is over, you’ll set up camp, and after the protagonist goes to sleep, you’ll be transported to Akademeia where you’ll meet More. Simply chat with him, and his Bond will be unlocked.

Strohl

Strohl’s Bond unlocks automatically on 06/06 after you defeat Captain Klinger in the Nord Mines. This is the first boss you’ll face in the prologue, and once he’s down, Strohl will Bond with you during a cutscene.

Gallica

Almost immediately after bonding with Strohl on 06/06, you’ll be teleported to Akademeia where Gallica is introduced to More. After a short conversation, Gallica will Bond with you.

Maria

Maria’s Bond becomes available on 06/10. Before you end the day at the Honeybee Inn, take some time to stroll downstairs where Maria will be waiting. Offer to read to her, and you’ll get a heartwarming cutscene that seals your Bond.

Hulkenberg

Hulkenberg joins your party after you defeat Undead Grius on 06/11. Strohl suggests heading back to the Honeybee Inn, where Hulkenberg is recovering from injuries. After Fabienne leaves to check on Maria, Hulkenberg will officially join your party, unlocking her Bond.

Brigitta

You’ll be able to Bond with Brigitta after you meet her on Sunlumeo Street in Grand Trad on 06/12. You’ll find her in front of the Igniter Shop on Sunlumeo Street in Grand Trad. However, you’ll need to raise your Wisdom to Rank 2 to unlock her quest. To gain the necessary Wisdom points, take the Help the Hushed Honeybee quest from Young Nidia on Sunlumeo Street. At night, head to the Hushed Honeybee Inn and help Fabienne with cooking. As well as Young Nidia’s quest, sitting on a bench behind him at night (near the wall) will give you a View of the Royal Capital, offering the last Wisdom points you need to rank up. After these tasks, you can start Brigitta’s quest - A Bullish Embargo - and Bond with her when you complete it.

Catherina

Catherina’s Bond can be unlocked after you defeat Undead Grius. The next day, on 06/12, head back to the Mausoleum Catacombs where a cutscene with Catherina will give you the quest A Friend in Need. Completing this will unlock her Bond.

Neuras

To Bond with Neuras, you’ll need to progress through the game until 06/26, when the quest Providing a Spark becomes available. Complete this quest, and Neuras’ Bond will unlock.

Alonzo

Unlocking Alonzo’s Bond can be a bit challenging. You can start his Bond during your first free time in Martira by accepting the A Dagger, A Ring, and a Rake Side Quest on 06/29. However, you’ll need Imagination Rank 2 to begin the quest, which can be tricky at this early stage. To reach Rank 2, spend time during your free days talking to Mustari NPCs in Grand Trad and Martira or by reading the New World Travel Diary on the Gauntlet Runner. Once you’ve reached Rank 2, the quest takes you on a two-day journey south of Martira to the Abandoned Tomb, which is filled with mimics and valuable loot. At the end of the dungeon, you’ll find the item Alonzo is looking for. Return it to him in Martira to complete the quest and unlock his Bond.

Heismay

Heismay’s Bond unlocks automatically on 07/04. Once you sleep at the inn in Martira, a cutscene will trigger the next morning, marking the start of your Bond with Heismay.

Bardon

Bardon becomes available for Bond events after the operation in Martira, where he serves as the acting Commander of the guard. Once you’ve completed the dungeon there and gotten some free days before heading to Brilehaven, you can unlock his Bond. Starting from 07/06, simply speak to Bardon on any free day in Martira to unlock his Bond and gain access to the Commander Archetype.

Junah

Junah might seem a bit elusive at first, as she’ll join your party after the events of 08/12, but you won’t be able to Bond with her or unlock her Masked Dancer Archetype right away. To unlock these, you’ll need to wait until you reach Virga Island. Once there, you’ll face Kokasadors, which is the only way to unlock her Bond and get the Masked Dancer role. Once you reach Virga Island, find Junah on the beach, where she’ll ask for help with a Mustari problem involving sacred snakes under attack by a monster. Head to Orbwise Path and fight Kokasadors (weak to Pierce and Fire). Make sure both the Protagonist and Junah are in your party. After defeating the monster, you’ll earn Health Incense, a Tower White Mask, and Imagination points. From then on, you can start Bond events with Junah and unlock the Masked Dancer Archetype for others in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Eupha

To unlock Eupha as a Follower in Metaphor: ReFantazio, head to Virga Island on 08/19 and speak to the Hoarse Fisher-Crone in the Village of Pagans to accept the request A Guiding Gift. You’ll need to collect glowing stones from the Dragon Temple, the fourth dungeon in the game. You can complete the request with just one stone, but finding all three - two in the labyrinth and one in the opening area - earns better rewards. Once you’ve collected them, return to the Hoarse Fisher-Crone to complete the quest. After completing the Dragon Temple, you’ll need to take on the Trials of Malnova request to fully unlock Eupha as a Follower. Speak to her in the Village of Pagans, which will open up a new dungeon called the Land of Ceremony. Defeat the boss there to increase your Wisdom and unlock the ability to Bond with Eupha.

Basilio

Basilio initially fights against you, working alongside his brother Fidelio for Lord Louis. However, this changes after the events of 09/11, when Basilio switches sides and joins your party. To unlock his Bond, you’ll need to wait until 09/13, when free days become available again. During this time, travel to any location using the Gauntlet Runner, and be sure to speak to Basilio while traveling to unlock his Bond. Once unlocked, Basilio grants access to the Berserker Archetype (which is one of the best Archetypes for Basilio and Strohl to use in Metaphor: ReFantazio).
