King Arthur Legion Ix Gaius Julius Mento Build Guide
Best Skills and Equipment for Gaius in King Arthur Legion IX
Gaius Julius Mento is with you from the start in King Arthur: Legion IX and, as your leader, he offers more flexibility than most of the other characters. Gaius is a melee DPS who also has a range of support options, plus heavy armor that allows him to operate on the front line as well as in the margins. He is not affected by morality or Loyalty, as he is the boss, so decisions of this kind do not affect him. The Agile trait gives Gaius +1 movement AP each turn, while he also gets +1 Skill Point every five levels thanks to the Skilled trait. This extra movement makes Gaius perfect for getting around the battlefield fast and taking advantage of game effects such as backstab. Once you have settled in Roma Nova, placing Gaius in the War Council will give him another +1 Movement AP.
Best Gaius Skills in King Arthur Legion IX
You can start to play with your Gaius skill setup as soon as you’ve cleared the first quest in King Arthur: Legion IX. Note that resetting your skills is free and you can do it any time that you’re between quests. After a skill reset, you will always have the basic melee skill Strike along with Barbed Blade (attacks cause Bleeding for 2 turns).
Best Gaius Equipment in King Arthur Legion IX
There seems to be a randomness to item drops in King Arthur: Legion IX, but look out for these on your travels (or any equipment that gives equivalent abilities). If you have enough, it is desirable to send Gaius into each quest with at least one and preferably two Healing Potions.
Ancile Sigil: Gaius is all about swift movement, so being able to dodge an Opportunity Attack each turn is massive, which is backed up with +1 movement AP. +2 Unbreakable Armor for adjacent allies is also a nice side bonus as if you’re not moving you’re likely in a defensive position, so this item will benefit you on most turns. Vexillum Rattus: Any item that straight gives you +1 AP is awesome but this also says that any unit you would leave on less than 10 percent vitality is instead killed. As you’re normally outnumbered, this can often mean fewer incoming attacks at the end of the rounds, which is always good. On the downside, it also takes up your accessory space with Rat Trap. I like this ability (place a hidden trap that damages and slows an enemy that stands in the space) but it depends on what you have to give up for it.
Beyond these or similar effects that boost your core skills, look for any items that increase Armor and Vitality, or that stop incoming ranged damage. Gaius can often find himself isolated and if he’s the furthest forward in a battle, he can draw the attention from your tanks.
How to play Gaius in King Arthur Legion IX
Jumping Attack and Execution make Gaius a particularly strong and mobile killing machine able to get off more attacks than most units in a single round. He is perfect for getting to annoying casters and bowmen and dispatching them quickly, but this can lead to him being targeted a lot. Try to use abilities such as Balance from Albina Virgilia to keep him upright, and use excess movement to get into cover after killing blows to further mitigate this.
