When you start the game off, you get three Rental Tickets which allow you to rent any three of the locked characters for a single match. With this method, you can use and try them out before you actually buy them using Character Tickets.

How to unlock characters in My Hero Ultra Rumble

In order to permanently unlock characters, you need to earn 300 Hero Souls, an in-game currency obtainable via the game’s gacha system. You can then trade them for a Character Ticket, which lets you unlock and keep a character for good. There are other special characters you can also unlock via the season pass-styled License tab by simply playing the game enough to earn a lot of in-game currency; however, this might take you a lot of wins before you can get your hands on any.
